    Hi Alex,
Firstly, thanks for your reply to my questions and your advice on McGowan’s book. My copy arrived a couple of days ago. A great reference which answers many questions. I also like what you have done with your site…very user friendly. Your build log is truly spectacular, but the pictures on this site provides a tutorial for the rest of us. My compliments to you.
I have another framing question arising from the book.
    1. Obviously the paired frames are types 1 and 2. Given McKay’s drawings only show one of the pair, say type 1. Did you just make another template and redraw it as a type 2 and then join them, and if so, is there a formula to the difference or did you estimate the lengths from McGowan’s book?
    2. McGowan’s book shows only one other frame, a type 3. What combination did you use for the other two filling frames? Was it the types 2 and 3?
I know that you did this eight years ago, but I am hoping a perfectionist like yourself has a perfect memory!!!!
    I trust I am not a nuisance.
    With respect and regards,
    Russell

    Hello Russell,

    Thank you for appreciation.
The way I built the frames is as you guessed: type 1 is what’s in the plans and type 2 I did it myself taking care to stagger the floors and futtocks joints approximately in the middle of those of type 1. Look carefully at the fourth picture in this post and you’ll see what I mean. Or even better compare pictures 13 and 14 the ones which show all pieces for a paired frame (hope I got right the numbers).

The filling frames were identical with the paired frames except they were not paired – a space was let between them. So no need for additional drawings and design for them.

    Regards Alexandru

      HI Alexandru,
Thanks for your instant reply. Makes perfect sense and will be “easier” without a type 3.
      Regards,
      Russell
